the red hat information technology (it) platform operations team is looking for a principal systems administrator to join us in raleigh, nc. in this role, you will provide essential support for red hat's critical internal infrastructure, utilities, and core services. in addition, you'll ensure that services and technologies, such as e-mail, authentication and authorization, ldap, dns, ipam, san and nas storage, data backup and recovery, virtualization, and enterprise level monitoring continue to function, deliver, and optimally perform 24/7.
**primary job responsibilities**
+ perform day-to-day system administration duties on red hat linux enterprise (rhel) servers across development, quality assurance (qa), staging, and production environments, supporting business-critical systems
+ collaborate with global team members and adjacent it teams to troubleshoot and resolve incidents
+ respond to and resolve incident and change request tickets through the employment of it service management (itsm) methodology
+ automate common procedures used to resolve incidents and change requests, and standardize and document common procedures that cannot be easily automated to be handed over to other associates or teams for execution
+ work with the red hat engineering team to guide innovation in it operations using red hat's technologies that are new or still in the product development pipeline
+ develop self-service capabilities for internal customers
+ be available to perform routine off-hours or weekend coverage 2-3 times per quarter, provide occasional on-call support, and periodically travel to other red hat offices and locations
+ u.s. bachelor's degree or a foreign equivalent in computer science, computer information systems, or a related field; single degree or any combination of degrees equivalent to a bachelor's degree with additional professional experience will be accepted
+ eight (8) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role
+ eight (8) years of experience in linux or unix systems administration, supporting mission-critical production systems and core utility services in a large scale (over 5,000 servers) enterprise environment including dns, nagios, puppet, openvpn, postfix, and git
+ five (5) years of experience developing scripts and automating tasks in languages such as red hat ansible automation, bash, perl, or python, leading complex system administration projects, and coordinating the efforts of others in a globally distributed team
+ five (5) years of experience with red hat enterprise virtualization (rhv) and amazon web services (aws), red hat satellite, cobbler, nagios, munin, and other open source systems ability to work with minimal supervision and balance competing priorities including projects, service requests, and production support incidents
+ experience working in a globally distributed work environment and communicating and working with a geographically distributed team
+ three (3) years of experience with itil itsm, or other formal incident, problem, and change management process experience
+ experience with windows system administration and record of participating in an open source project
+ willingness to travel 10% of the time; all travel expenses will be covered by red hat
